Trichomanes intramarginale is confined to South India and Sri Lanka . Beddome (1883) has given Sivagiri (Tirunelli), Malabar hills and Coorg as the areas of distribution in South India. This species was earlier known only by a few collections from Sri Lanka and South India made during 1827-1830, until recently Manickam and Irudayaraj (1992) rediscovered it from the forests of Kerala. They commented that the species seems to be very rare. However, in our explorations we found it growing in almost all the evergreen and semi-evergreen forest streams of the Western Ghats, as thick patches on half submerged boulders, even at an altitude below 100 m. It is purely lithophytic, confined to the boulders of streams. |
